Mixed Media with Encaustic Wax
Art class using mixed media and encaustic wax techniques.
- 125 US dollars$125
Service Description
An introduction to encaustic painting is an adult workshop. Encaustic painting involves using heated oil pigmented infused beeswax. The wax is melted on a hotplate which serves as a paint pallet. The liquid wax is then applied to a prepared wooden surface. The medium was lost for centuries but made a resurgence in the 20th century by the likes of such artists as Picasso and Diego Rivera. It didn't stick with them but did for artists like Jasper Johns in the 1950's and has continued to gain popularity again ever since. In the workshop students will learn about the diversity of the medium as well as basic techniques and tools used. Each student will complete two unique pieces of art. This workshop is open to all skill levels. Elizabeth uses visual references as well as a hands on approach to teaching.
